Ontario County residents have another opportunity to weigh in on a long-term plan for managing solid waste and recycling.
County officials announced that the draft Local Solid Waste Management Plan is now open for a second round of public review and comment through May 4, 2026. The plan is available online at OntarioCountyRecycles.org.
The plan is designed to guide how the county handles waste over the next decade, with a focus on creating a system that is both cost-effective and environmentally responsible.
Officials say the plan serves as a countywide framework for coordinating solid waste management efforts, setting goals for waste reduction, and tracking progress over time. It is also required under New York State law.
The effort comes as residents, businesses, and institutions across the county continue to generate significant amounts of waste, prompting the need for a comprehensive strategy to manage it now and in the future.
County leaders note that the plan will involve coordination among local municipalities, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, private waste haulers, and facility operators.
Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan and submit feedback before the May deadline.
