A 10-year-old Geneva boy is being recognized for quick thinking that authorities say helped save his father’s life.

The City of Geneva Police Department says Dominic Carberry received a Lifesaving Award from the Ontario County Safety Council during its annual awards banquet, held at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor.

The event, now in its sixth decade, honors first responders and community members for acts of bravery and life-saving efforts.

Police Chief Ron Eveland nominated Dominic for the award following his actions on July 23, 2025. Officials say Dominic’s father suffered a medical emergency and became unresponsive at their home.

Dominic recognized something was wrong and ran to a neighbor’s house to get help, prompting a response from the Geneva Police and Fire departments.

Authorities say his quick actions were critical and likely saved his father’s life.

The annual ceremony recognizes individuals across Ontario County whose actions in emergency situations help prevent tragedy.
