A city resident and a police officer were injured following a dog attack on Monday afternoon in Geneva.
According to the City of Geneva Police Department, officers from the Uniformed Division responded to the area of Austin Place around 4:45 p.m. for a reported dog attack.ย Upon arrival, officers found a resident suffering from multiple bite wounds to the lower body. Police say a tourniquet was applied at the scene to control bleeding.
While assisting the victim, officers encountered a medium-sized pit bull, which then bit one of the responding officers in the lower body.
The victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. The injured officer was treated at Geneva General Hospital and later released.
Police say the dogโs owner was located and took possession of the animal. The department is working with the Ontario County Humane Society as the investigation continues.
Criminal charges against the dogโs owner are pending.
