After its Sunday kickoff in Throop, United Way of Cayuga County’s annual fundraising campaign is underway; however, there is one major change to this year’s campaign.
In previous years, thermometers outside Auburn City Hall and the Cayuga County Office Building denoted how much money had been collected. Julisa Stone with United Way told Finger Lakes News Radio that for this year those numbers won’t represent dollars raised but community engagement instead.
“Because we recognize that the dollar doesn’t stretch as much as it once did and that a lot of our neighbors and families are struggling, instead of a monetary goal this year we are looking at the number of [donations]. So, what we want to do is grow and build the United Way family and have more people get involved.”
United Way has set its goal at 2,000 individual gifts.
Money raised during the annual campaign goes to support member agencies throughout Cayuga County. For information on how to donate, call 315-253-9741 or visit unitedwayofcayugacounty.org.
