As Undersheriff Stu Peenstra approaches the completion of his second year with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, he called his decision to join the right move.
Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, Undersheriff Peenstra said it’s been a great experience learning the inner workings of the office.
“It’s been a great move for me… I enjoyed the challenge of learning the jail and the different divisions of the sheriff’s office and learning the complexity of the road patrol in the larger area of Cayuga County.”
Undersheriff Peenstra added that, after accomplishing the goals he set for himself as Chief of the Seneca Falls Police Department and retiring, he approached Sheriff Brian Schenck about a part-time job with his office. Over breakfast one day, Sheriff Schenck offered him the position of undersheriff instead.
“I was very pleased and honored that he asked me to be his second in charge.”
Peentstra became Cayuga County’s undersheriff in January 2023, following the retirement of then Undersheriff Steve Smith after 25 years with the office.
