Harmful Algal Blooms have been confirmed on Cayuga and Owasco Lakes.
The Cayuga County Health Department made the announcement Tuesday that the beaches at Camp Y Owasco and the Owasco Yacht Club have been temporarily closed as a result.
When the HABs are no longer visible, the health department will collect water samples at the beaches and send them out for testing If the results are satisfactory, they will be reopened.
As HABs are prevalent in the Finger Lakes during warmer weather, the health department will not issue releases every time HABs are present. Instead, the public is advised to contact the operators of any beaches before arriving to make sure they’re open for swimming.
