A Syracuse man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after his April 5 conviction on two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
According to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, on July 1, 2022, 32-year old Chanchhayavan Chourb was stopped by police around 1:00a while driving on South Street in Auburn. He was ordered out of his vehicle where he then fled on foot and threw a bag containing over 1/8oz of cocaine packaged for distribution into the street.
Ultimately, he was found to be in possession of approximately 3g of powder cocaine and over 3g of crack cocaine.
Chourb was soon apprehended and found guilty on both counts after a three day trial.
After serving prison time, he will face three years post-release supervision.
“Thanks to the quick actions of the Auburn Police Department and the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force, this individual was apprehended and his cocaine was seized.” District Attorney Grome Antonacci commented, “We commend the proactive response and efforts of these law enforcement agencies in removing narcotics from our community.”
