Report: Ex-Mentz Supervisor Seeking Plea in Child Sex Crime Charge

A former town supervisor in Cayuga County has been charged with a sex crime involving a child.

Richard Nielens, Junior, was Mentz Town Supervisor from 2016 to 2021 and also served on the town board. The 65-year-old was arrested in December on a felony charge of disseminating indecent material to a minor and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

The Citizen reports a plea deal for Nielens is currently being negotiated with the DA’s Office. His next court date is March 21st
