Public Hearing Set as City Seeks Grant for Iconic Auburn Diner

SHARE NOW

An upcoming public hearing will let Auburn residents weigh in on the future of the Hunter Dinerant.

The city plans to Empire State Development (ESD) for $1 million in grant funding through the Restore NY Communities initiative to rehabilitate the 18 Genesee Street property. ESD requires the city to hold a public hearing and one has been scheduled for December 5 at 5:00p during the regularly scheduled city council meeting.

Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, City Clerk Chuck Mason said individuals have approached the city about restoring the property so it can be put back to use.

“The great news is there are a couple of individuals interested in the potential restoration of the Hunter Dinerant property on-site where it is. The city has been asked to support a Restore NY grant application.”

Mason added those individuals will give a brief presentation to the council and attendees at the hearing.

The diner closed in December 2022 with the city acquiring the property in 2023.
