Jeff Pirozzolo, the superintendent of the Auburn Enlarged City School District, announced last week that he will retire next year.
Noting that the education field has changed over the 31 years he’s worked in education, Pirozzolo said on FLX Morning that he hopes a new superintendent will bring in new ideas.
“I just think it’s time to get someone else in there and get some new ideas in there,” Pirozzolo said. “I’m going to greatly greatly miss it but I’m going to continue working in some capacity.”
Pirozzolo began his role as superintendent in 2015, following time as an assistant principal and assistant superintendent for personnel.
The district’s Board of Education has already begun its search for a new superintendent with Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Superintendent Dr Brian Hartwell being appointed to facilitate the search. The application period is expected to open mid-February with interviews of candidates taking place by spring.
The district has also launched a survey allowing district residents to share their thoughts on the qualifications and characteristics candidates should have. The survey, available through January 28, can be found at cayboces.org.
