The Moravia Central School District has released a statement following an audit from the New York State Comptroller’s Office.

The audit, conducted between 2019 and 2024, stated that 98 of the district’s 303 potable water outlets were either not sampled for lead or not properly exempted. Without the testing, officials could not determine whether those fixtures posed a risk or required remediation. The audit further stated that the reporting errors were the result of the district’s lack of a formal sampling plan to identify which water outlets needed to be tested or exempted.

In a letter to district residents, Acting Superintendent Concetta M Galvan stated that the district will revise its documentation process to prevent further errors.

The letter goes on to reassure residents that the district’s water is safe.

The district will also revise its testing procedures to include outlets not included in previous tests. Additional signage designating potable and non-potable water will also be added.

According to the district, the next official testing is scheduled for completion by December 31.
