An upcoming collaboration by the Owasco Watershed Lake Association (OWLA) and Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council (OLWMC) will provide a day of free family-friendly activities while teaching attendees ways to live a lake-friendly life.
OWLA and OLWMC will hold their Lake Friendly Living Awareness Day from 10:00a-1:00p on May 17 at Emerson Park. Attendees are asked to meet at the main pavilion.
As part of the event, attendees can learn about the importance of rain gardens and help plant and weed the existing rain garden. Those seeking to help grow the rain garden are asked to bring sunscreen, a hat, sturdy shoes, gardening gloves, and gardening tools.
Gardening coloring sheets will be provided for young children.
There will also be a water testing demonstration, allowing attendees to learn about how OWLA’s water monitoring team maintains the quality of drinking water from Owasco Lake.
Attendees will also be able to participate in biomonitoring viewing with the Community Science Institute. Water samples from the streams that feed Owasco Lake will be brought in, allowing people to view the aquatic life that lives in these streams, as well as the importance of clean water for them.
Light refreshments and water will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring their own water bottles.
