Cayuga Community College’s theatre troupe has received recognition from the Theatre Association of New York State(TANYS).
Harlequin Productions’ performance of Jest Desserts at the association’s annual festival earlier this month has earned the troupe a Festival Adjudicator Discretionary Award for Outstanding Ensemble.
“Comedy is such a different style of acting, and many of our cast were not overly familiar with sketch comedy from past decades,” said Harlequin Productions Director Bob Frame “They didn’t have that background to draw from but they worked hard to prepare for this and I’m glad for them that they had the chance to perform at the festival and received an ensemble award.”
The play was written by Rich Orloff and features a series of skits similar to late-night TV sketch comedies.
In October, Harlequin’s on-campus performance resulted in their selection to perform at the festival, making it one of only eight productions from across the state to be selected to perform at the festival. The October run also earned Bob Fram a Meritous Achievement in Direction award, Chris Yeckel an Excellence in Sound Design award, and a Meritorious Achievement in Ensemble Acting award for the entire cast.
The student cast members are Louis Araujo, Connor Barrigar, Cameron Bouchard, Amy Card, Hope Campbell, Thomas Higgins, Riley Kimball, Kronous Panek, Alex Reuter, Kylah Rossbach, and Jane Sullivan.
