Cayuga Museum Temporarily Moving Children’s Program

The Cayuga Museum will close in January to prepare for its new exhibits; however, its recently launched Creative Explorers program will remain open, but with a change of venue.

Haley Boothe, who is in charge of the program, told Finger Lakes News Radio that a partnership with Auburn’s PlaySpace will allow the family-oriented program to continue while the museum is closed.

“We still wanted the Creative Explorers program to be accessible to members of the community so we partnered with PlaySpace to offer a version of it in their space which is catered to children under six,” said Boothe.

Some of the program’s features include a selection of the museum’s children’s books and science-themed toys as well as a special paper doll activity.

Creative Explorers will run from 10:00a-12:00p on three Tuesdays in January – the 9th, 16th, and 23rd. There will be a $7.00 admission fee for one child and one caregiver and a $10.00 fee for a family of up to five members

The program, launched in September thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Jim and Julie Boeheim Foundation, was designed to make the museum more accessible to families.

Boothe had previously discussed the program’s many facets with Finger Lakes News Radio. She added that, along with creating a special kid’s corner and scavenger hunt program, the museum also designates one day each month as a Family Free Day. This lets families attend the museum at no cost. The museum also opens one hour earlier on these days so families that have children with sensory needs can enjoy the museum.
