A new family program begins this weekend at the Cayuga Museum.

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Jim and Julie Boeheim Foundation, the museum is launching its Creative Explorers Program

Haley Boothe, who is handling the program, told Finger Lakes News Radio that the museum will now have a new children’s gallery.

“There’s an artworks table, a corner for toys, books, all sorts of stuff. There’s also going to be an area for them to display their artwork.”

The museum will also designate one day a month as a Family Free Day where families can attend the museum at no cost. On Family Free Days, the museum will open an hour earlier (10:00a) than usual to allow for families of children with sensory needs to experience the exhibits.

Boothe added that, for Family Free Days, the museum will hold scavenger hunts to encourage children’s curiosity.

“[The hunts allow] children to explore the museum in a way that is uniquely fun to children specifically. So, having the ability to not just walk in a room and read a label but to walk in a room and have to find something and really think critically and explore.”

The first Family Free Day is this Saturday, starting at 10:00a.
