Cayuga County is moving its primary data center to a new location in Auburn, citing the need for uninterrupted access to critical digital services and concerns over environmental risks at the current site.
The data center supports a wide range of essential county functions, including public safety communications, financial systems, document management, and employee records. Reliable access to these systems is crucial for daily operations, business continuity, and the protection of sensitive public data.
Due to ongoing environmental conditions in the County Office Building—where the data center is currently housed—officials say the equipment faces a growing risk of contamination and damage. That threat has prompted the county to seek a safer, more stable location.
As part of a new agreement approved by the Auburn City Council on Thursday night, the county will lease space at Auburn’s Fire Station Number One for an annual cost of $2,480. The move is expected to safeguard vital technology infrastructure while maintaining uninterrupted services for residents.
