Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputies Make History

SHARE NOW

For the first time in the 224-year history of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, this week, the primary Deputies assigned to a Road Patrol shift were all women.

The office currently has four female Road Patrol Deputies and one Detective Sergeant out of a total of 33 total members of the Road Patrol Division. Deputies Wojcikowski, Lawson, and Loveless were the three women to make history Wednesday.

Sheriff Brian Schenck told Finger Lakes News Radio his office is actively working to encourage women to join its ranks.

Having hired all four of the office’s female road patrol deputies personally, Sheriff Schenck added that they are positive role models whom he believes will help encourage more young women and girls to take up careers in law enforcement.
