Cayuga County Offers Directory For Temporarily Displaced Departments

While the Cayuga County Office Building remains closed due to much-needed repairs and maintenance, where do people go for their services?

Cayuga County Legislature Chair Aileen McNabb-Coleman and County Manager Steve Lynch have created a temporary directory with contact and temporary location information for the departments displaced by the closure.

2024 has been an eventful year for the 58-year-old building. In January, the building had to be closed following violent windstorms that rocked the county. Short-term patches were made to the roof with the goal of keeping the building usable during the winter months until more permanent repairs could be made.

After reopening, McNabb-Coleman had to close the 160 Genesee Street site’s doors once again in June after testing revealed heavy rains in May led to vermiculite, a mineral that can contain asbestos, accumulating at several windows on the property. In her announcement, McNabb-Coleman said the building would likely remain closed until at least the end of August.

On Wednesday, August 14, a fire on the structure’s front facade was detected and quickly extinguished by the Auburn Fire Department.
