Cayuga County has introduced a new app to keep the community safe and informed.
Designed to enhance communication and safety within the community, the SaferWatch app serves as a direct line of communication between the county, the sheriff’s office, and residents.
The county states the app will allow it to “send notifications about emergencies, public safety concerns, and other significant information that impacts our community” directly to residents. SaferWatch allows users to receive instant notifications about emergencies, building or road closures, and other critical information. It can also be used to stay informed about local events, public safety initiatives, and community resources.
“I’m proud of the collaborative communication between Information Technology Director, Tom Bunn and Cayuga County Sheriff, Brian Schenck. I fully support this application, which will enhance safety and security for everyone in Cayuga County,” said Chairwoman Aileen McNabbColeman.
Aside from receiving alerts from county officials, SaferWatch lets users send tips and report suspicious activity to law enforcement, allowing residents to take a more active role in keeping the community safe while remaining anonymous.
“The mission of our Sheriff’s Office in part is to secure and maintain a safe community and to enhance the quality of life of all citizens, with our commitment to utilizing community partnerships to do so. I am proud to partner with Chairwoman Aileen McNabb Coleman and our legislature, as well as those we serve, on this public safety initiative to keep our communities informed and to provide a platform where critical public safety information can be shared with law enforcement,” said Sheriff Brian Schenck
With the current closure of the Cayuga County Office Building, the county is touting the app as an essential tool in keeping the public informed about important events and updates.
SaferWatch can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once downloaded, alert preferences can be customized.
