Cayuga County’s newest affordable housing complex is inviting the community to stop by.
Wheat Street Apartments in the Village of Cayuga will hold an open house from 10:00a-12:00p on Saturday, March 1 to allow prospective tenants and community members to walk the grounds, view the apartments and townhomes, and ask any questions they may have.
Wheat Street project manager, Inthaca Neighborhood Housing Services (INHS), expects construction on the apartments to be completed next month.
To create the complex, INHS transformed the former Cayuga Elementary School into apartments and created three townhouses. In total, the campus features 47 affordable housing units.
The project has not been without its controversy though. At a meeting held last April, residents expressed concerns about the effect a potential population increase would have on the village and its services.
