Auburn Urging County to Reconsider Lake Monitoring Decision

SHARE NOW

The City of Auburn is urging the Cayuga County Legislature to reconsider its decision to not renew an agreement with the Finger Lakes Institute for the monitoring of Owasco Lake.

At Thursday’s City Council Meeting, Councilor Terry Cuddy read into the record a letter penned by himself and fellow councilors Jimmy Giannettino and Ginny Kent. In it, county legislators are reminded that the lake is the source of drinking water for 45-thousand people throughout the county and an important revenue source due to tourism.

Results from the institute’s research are used in planning initiatives to improve the lake’s water quality.

The letter has been sent to members of the county legislature who will meet Tuesday at 4:45p where the decision not to renew the agreement could be reconsidered.

Below is a copy of the letter sent to the county legislature.
