Auburn Enlarged City School District has its new superintendent.
According to a Tuesday news release, Doctor Misty Slavic has been chosen by the board to succeed Jeff Pirozzolo who announced in January that he will retire next year after a nearly 20-year career with the district.
Nearly 20 candidates had applied for the position which was then narrowed down to five semifinalists.
Last month, the Board of Education announced that Dr. Misty Slavic and Dr Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan had been selected as the two finalists for the position. Each spent a day in the district for their final interviews.
Slavic holds a doctorate in education and educational leadership from the University of Pittsburgh and has served as a superintendent for curriculum and instruction and director of special education.
Slavic is expected to be formally appointed to the position by the school board at a special meeting.
