Three people have been indicted in three separate weapons-related felony cases in Cayuga County.
District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that the Cayuga County Grand Jury indicted 35-year-old Daniel Myvett of Syracuse on one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon with the Intent to Use Unlawfully, a felony. Myvett is accused of swinging a machete multiple times at an individual outside the Department of Social Services in Auburn on April 14.
If convicted, Myvett faces 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison.
Due to the state’s bail laws, Antonacci said Myvett remains out of custody.
18-year-old James Rio of Auburn was indicted on one count of Assault, a violent felony, according to the district attorney. Back in March, Rio allegedly stabbed a victim in the chest with a knife outside the Fingerlakes Mall in Aurelius.
Rio was arraigned and taken into the sheriff’s custody in lieu of bail.
If convicted, he faces 7 years in prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision.
The third indictment was 32-year-old Ishmael Thomas of Syracuse on a single count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon with Intent to Use Unlawfully, a felony. Thomas is accused of unlawfully entering a victim’s Auburn home and threatening her with a hammer.
He was taken into the sheriff’s custody in lieu of bail.
If convicted, Antonacci said Thomas faces an aggregate prison sentence of 32 years in prison, followed by 5 years post-release supervision.
Antonacci added that she is handling the prosecution in these three cases.
The charge is merely an accusation, and any defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
