On Tuesday, detectives with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Aurelius man wanted in connection with an ongoing child sexual abuse investigation.

Robert Harlan, 42, was located at a residence in the Town of Throop and taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued out of Cayuga County Court. Sheriff Brian Schenck reported that the investigation began in 2025 after a report was received that Harlan had sexually abused a child. Evidence allegedly revealed that Harlan sexually abused a child under the age of 13 over the course of multiple months.

Harlan has been charged with predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A-II felony, course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree, a class B felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Following his arrest, Harlan was arraigned in Cayuga County Court and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff’s Office.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
