A 29-year-old Rochester woman reported missing last month was found buried on a property in Yates County, and her death has been ruled a homicide, according to Rochester police.

The investigation began on May 7 when family members contacted the Rochester Police Department after they had not seen or heard from Majesty Montgomery for more than 24 hours.

While interviewing relatives and conducting a preliminary investigation, police said detectives developed information indicating Montgomery may have been the victim of a crime. The case was then assigned to the department’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit.

On the evening of May 8, investigators followed leads to a large property in Yates County. During a search of the property, detectives discovered an area of recently disturbed ground. After excavating the site, they located Montgomery’s body buried several feet underground.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled Montgomery’s death a homicide. Authorities said the exact cause of death is not being released at this time.

According to investigators, evidence indicates Montgomery was killed at a residence on Austin Street in Rochester before her body was transported to Yates County and buried.  Police did not disclose where in Yates County the body was found.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about Montgomery’s death is urged to call 911, the Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at (585) 428-7157, or Crime Stoppers at (585) 423-9300. Tips can also be submitted by email to [email protected].
