An 11-year-old boy has died after suffering a medical emergency at the swimming pool at the Binghamton Country Club in Broome County.

According to New York State Police, troopers from the Endwell barracks responded at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday to the country club on Robinson Hill Road in the Town of Union following a report of a child in distress in the pool.

By the time troopers arrived, lifeguards and bystanders had already begun lifesaving efforts on the unresponsive child. Troopers assisted until the boy was transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center. He was later flown to Upstate University Hospital, where he died on Thursday.

State Police said the incident remains under investigation. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office following its examination.

Investigators said there is no indication of foul play.

In a statement, State Police extended their condolences to the boy’s family, loved ones, and all those affected by the tragedy.
