Auburn Community Hospital (ACH) and Auburn Orthopaedic Specialists (AOS) are pleased to announce that they will provide athletic training and sports medicine services for the Auburn Enlarged City School District (AECSD).
AOS under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Alexander, Orthopedic Surgeon, and Chief Administrative Officer for ACH, will provide the necessary supervision of the athletic training services that will include Dr. Christopher Wang, Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine specialist as well as certified athletic trainers. AOS’s athletic trainers will attend to any
injuries sustained by students as a result of the student’s participation in an athletic event, including an initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness in order to provide first aid and/or a referral to emergency services or a physician for a definitive diagnosis.
The athletic training program will also provide health care information and counseling to athletes. ACH has invested in the latest technology including robotics for surgery, a new CT Scan suite and the latest 3T MRI system as well as a new concussion center that will open in October. This local partnership with Auburn Community Hospital will elevate the Auburn Athletics program to heights necessary for our scholar-athletes to compete at their optimal level,” Auburn Superintendent Jeffrey A. Pirozzolo said.
The program’s goal is to grow its staff to allow daily on-site sports medicine coverage throughout the academic year based on a schedule agreed to by ACH and the AECSD. Injured or ill athletes and coaches will receive expedited access to the services provided by Auburn Orthopaedic Specialists and Auburn Community Hospital as well as injury prevention education. The partnership also grants Auburn students access to additional services, such as the new Auburn Concussion Program at ACH. “Partnerships, such as this one, allow us the opportunity to bring high-quality local care directly into the communities we serve. Our team’s goal is not only to provide the best treatment for injured athletes but also to educate students and staff on injury prevention and healthy habits for athletes,” said Scott A. Berlucchi, President & CEO at Auburn Community Hospital.
This partnership is the latest step in Auburn Orthopaedic Specialists’ expansion of its orthopedic services throughout Cayuga County and the surrounding region.
