A Cayuga County Grand Jury has indicted two men in connection with separate shootings that occurred in the City of Auburn last weekend.
District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced Wednesday that 35-year-old Davon Dixon of Brooklyn has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors allege Dixon intentionally shot and killed 43-year-old Ronell Agee near Chapman Avenue after firing multiple rounds from a loaded firearm. He was quickly taken into custody by Auburn Police and remains held without bail at the Cayuga County Jail. If convicted, Dixon faces a sentence of up to 40 years to life in prison.
In a separate incident, 55-year-old Leon Shorter of Syracuse was indicted on two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Investigators say Shorter was found with a loaded and operable handgun following a shots-fired call near State Street and Perrine Street. In a separate case, 55-year-old Leon Shorter of Syracuse was charged with possessing a loaded handgun near State and Perrine Streets after two people were shot early Sunday morning. Shorter is not legally allowed to own a firearm in New York and remains in custody. Authorities noted Shorter is legally prohibited from possessing firearms in New York. He also remains in custody pending arraignment, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Additional charges related to the shootings remain under review.
District Attorney Grome Antonacci and Special Counsel Mark Moody are prosecuting the cases.
