A man is dead and another is facing murder charges following a shooting Saturday night near a large block-style party in Auburn.
According to the Auburn Police Department, officers were in the area of Oak Creek Town Homes around 9:38 p.m. when they heard multiple gunshots coming from nearby Chapman Avenue. Officers ran to the scene and found a man with a handgun, who dropped the weapon when ordered and was taken into custody.
A second man was found lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began providing aid until fire and EMS crews arrived on the scene. The victim was transported to Auburn Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Davon Dixon of Auburn, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending proper notification to the family.
The investigation drew a large response due to the number of people in the area. Auburn Police were assisted by the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the Cayuga County Coroner’s Office.
