Plans Moving Forward on New Home for Penn Yan’s Cupola

There’s an update on the 135-year-old Penn Yan Cupola. Marsha Devine, Secretary of the Cupola Restoration Board, addressed the Yates County Legislature on Tuesday.

“The Save the Cupola Board has entered into an agreement with the Keuka Hotel, LLC, better known as the Hampton Inn, and they are planning a sub-division to sell us a piece of their property that we can put the Cupola on for a permanent location,” said Devine. ” We’re kind of excited about it. It still has a few pieces to take care of, but we are moving forward.”

Devine said restoration work on the Empire State Wine Cellars Cupola has been on hold while trying to find a permanent home.

One year ago, the Yates County Legislature approved $50,000 in Occupancy Tax funds recommended by the Tourism Advisory Committee to be put towards the restoration.

In June, the Cupola was moved to the Hoover property to allow for restoration work. Once restoration work is complete, the Cupola will be moved to its new location.

The non-profit group Save the Cupola believed the village of Penn Yan had given the green light for the Cupola to be placed in Angler Boat Park along the Outlet Trail, but the village said a decision was never made to host it there.
