For now, a piece of Penn Yan’s history can be found in the town of Jerusalem.
The Empire State Wine Cellars cupola was recently moved to the Hoover property to allow for restoration work on the 135-year-old structure. According to the Cupola Restoration Project of Penn Yan’s Facebook page, once restoration work is complete, the cupola will be moved to a permanent location, which was not disclosed. The cupola once sat upon the top of Yates County’s first winery and is looking for a new home.
The non-profit group Save the Cupola believed the village had given the green light for the Cupola to be placed in Angler Boat Park along the Outlet Trail, but the village said a decision was never made to host it there but that it would consider that location for fundraising purposes.
