A number of local projects will share in project funding made possible through the collection of the Yates County Occupancy Tax and recommended to the County Legislature by the Tourism Advisory Committee. At Monday’s County Legislature meeting, Marla Hedworth announced who the committee had recommended to legislators to receive funding.

Prior to Monday’s vote, Hedworth also gave lawmakers the proposed funding breakdown.

On Monday, the legislature voted unanimously to provide the funding as recommended for the ten projects.

The projects and the amount awarded include:

  • Save the Cupola – $50,000
  • Rochester Folk Art Guild  – $45,000
  • Saunders Finger Lakes Museum – $75,000
  • Arts Center of Yates County #1 – $5,000
  • Arts Center of Yates County #2 – $3,200
  • Relative Risk/Laurentide Beer Co. – $19,051
  • Finger Lakes Wine Country – $70,000
  • Village of Penn Yan, Tennis Courts – $107,044
  • Keuka Lake Wine Trail – $60,000
  • Yates County Chamber, TPA – $310,000

The Tourism Advisory Committee was established to act as an advisor to the County Legislature and is made up of local tourism professionals. It reviews the funding requests from tourism agencies and related groups for the upcoming County fiscal year before making a final recommendation to the Legislature.

Yates County established a four-percent occupancy tax program for the purpose of promoting, developing, and protecting the area’s tourism industry. Through this grant program, it was deemed important to establish programs and opportunities to promote or support the development of activities that will increase occupancy in the lodging sector in Yates County.
