Air Quality Alert Covers Finger Lakes Through Midnight Tonight

Stepping outside this evening, the air has that familiar hazy, slightly acrid edge — Canadian wildfire smoke is still flowing across the Finger Lakes on a west-northwest wind, and Air Quality Alerts are in effect regionwide through midnight to 12:30 AM Friday, depending on your county.

The good news: NWS Buffalo expects the worst smoke conditions to ease tonight as the plume gradually shifts northeast to southwest, though some smoke may drift back across the area during Friday before a flow shift finally clears things out by the weekend.

Overnight lows will settle into the mid-to-upper 60s — near 67° in Geneva and Ithaca, dropping to around 65° in Bath. No frost concerns, no precipitation. Clear to partly cloudy skies, with light winds dying down after dark.

Tomorrow brings partly cloudy skies and a comfortable high near 81° in Geneva, with humidity easing and winds staying light. Enjoy the calm — Saturday and Sunday bring a wetter pattern as a system moves through, with showers and thunderstorm chances increasing Friday night and carrying into the weekend.
