The SUNY Student Assembly (SUNY SA) unveiled its the “Students’ Agenda”, a comprehensive platform outlining its FY26 state budget and legislative priorities. Developed with input from students across the 1.3 million-strong SUNY system, this agenda tackles the most pressing challenges facing public higher education in New York State.

“The ‘Students’ Agenda’ is a clear call to action for the future of public higher education in New York. Students across the SUNY system are advocating for increased investments that will strengthen our campuses, expand critical resources, and ensure that every student—regardless of background—has the support they need to succeed.” said SUNY SA President and SUNY Trustee Giovanni Harvey. “Modernizing campus infrastructure, strengthening community colleges, reforming the Excelsior Scholarship, and expanding access to opportunity programs are critical to keeping SUNY affordable, accessible, and a leader in public higher education for our students.”

“These priorities aren’t just about improving facilities or programs; they’re about investing in student potential and building a stronger, more equitable SUNY system,” said SUNY SA Interim Executive Director of Policy & Government Relations Luca Rallis. “SUNY is a powerful engine of upward mobility and a crucial economic driver. Our agenda aims to amplify these strengths, ensuring that students from all backgrounds can access the transformative power of higher education.”

SUNY SA’s FY26 priorities reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the pressing needs of SUNY students while ensuring the continued growth and improvement of the SUNY system. The organization calls on New York State legislators to support these initiatives, which are crucial for maintaining SUNY’s position as a leading public university system and fostering student success.
