Two Central New York students have been nominated by New York’s junior senator for US Service Academies.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced she has nominated Donald Snyder of Utica for the US Naval Academy and Jonah Williams of Skaneateles for the US Air Force Academy.
“These fine young leaders represent the best and brightest of New York, and I am hopeful that they will go on to be truly exceptional military leaders,” said Senator Gillibrand. “They have demonstrated truly outstanding qualities of leadership and integrity as students, athletes, and community members. I am pleased to offer my congratulations to each of my nominees this year.”
To decide who to nominate, the senator formed a selection committee to choose nominees from qualified applicants. Criteria, such as academic record and leadership potential, were used to make the final decisions. Gillibrand noted that the service academies themselves determine final acceptance.
Upon graduation, students become commissioned officers in the US armed forces and are obligated to serve a minimum of five years in the military.
