Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has invited Oswego County Sheriff Don Hilton to be her guest at President Donald Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress. This year’s Joint Address will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 P.M.
In 1987, Sheriff Hilton started his career as a Corrections Officer with the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department. He later went on to serve 20 years in the Syracuse Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, and then Detective Sergeant. Afterward, he worked as a Federal Drug Intelligence Officer with NY/NJ HIDTA before becoming a Cold Case Homicide Investigator with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, where he was promoted to Senior Investigator in 2016. He was elected to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department in 2018 and took office on January 1, 2019, where he continues to serve as Sheriff.
“Sheriff Don Hilton is a highly regarded law enforcement officer from our district, and I am honored to have him join me in attending the Joint Address this year. Since 1987, Sheriff Hilton has dedicated his life to public service, serving in a variety of law enforcement roles across our region. He started his career in Oswego County as a corrections officer and has since returned to serve as the Oswego County Sheriff. His attendance alongside me at President Trump’s Joint Address reinforces this administration’s and my commitment to our law enforcement officers. Sheriff Hilton is a prime example of a public servant, and I am eager to have the Sheriff accompany me at this event,” said Congresswoman Tenney.
“I am honored to have been asked by Congresswoman Tenney to attend the Joint Address to Congress as her guest, and I look forward to attending. I appreciate the endless support Congresswoman Tenney has shown for Law Enforcement,” said Sheriff Hilton.
In 2023, Congresswoman Tenney’s guest for the State of the Union speech was retiring Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike.
