Onondaga County Beaches Closed Due to HAB Outbreaks

SHARE NOW

One week after Harmful Algal Blooms closed two beaches in Cayuga County, the same thing happened in a neighboring county.

On Monday, the Onondaga County Health Department announced Jamesville Beach in LaFayette and Gillie Lake in Camilus have been closed after HABs were spotted in the water.

Once the beaches are visually free of algae for 24 hours, testing will be conducted to ensure there are no toxins in the water before the beaches are reopened.

Similar outbreaks have also closed beaches on Canandaigua and Honeoye Lakes.
