Injured Chemung Investigator Showing Signs of Improvement

SHARE NOW

Some encouraging news was shared Friday by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office regarding injured Investigator Mike Theetge. While Thettge remains in critical but stable condition in the ICU unit at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, he has shown signs of improvement over the last several days. Sheriff William Schrom said they will remain cautiously optimistic that Thettge’s recovery will continue in that direction.

Theetge was thrown by a moving car while trying to apprehend a larceny suspect in Big Flats last Friday night.

In a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, they wrote,

“The Theetge family and members of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office cannot thank the public enough for their continued thoughts and prayers for Mike’s full recovery, as well as the outpouring of donations to assist the family on his long road to recovery. Having said this, we would ask that any individual, business, or corporation wishing to donate to the family do so by contacting the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office directly to arrange the drop off of their donation(s) or to have a member of the Sheriff’s Office come to pick the donation(s) up.

“While we greatly appreciate individuals in the community facilitating many of these fundraising events, it has become increasingly difficult to adequately monitor and control the manner in which they are being collected and turned over to the family. By dropping the donations directly off at the Sheriff’s Office or having a member of our agency pick them up, this will streamline that process for the family.

“If anyone wishes to donate, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 607-737-2950 (Road Patrol) or 607-737-2987 (Administration) and we can assist you with this process. All donations will be immediately turned over to the Chemung County Deputy Sheriff’s Association who will in turn get them directly to the family.

“Again, on behalf of all the men and women of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office as well the family of Mike Theetge, we sincerely appreciate all the support!”
