Flags across New York State will fly at half-staff in honor of the two law enforcement officers killed in Salina on Sunday.
Governor Hochul gave the order that flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise on Saturday to sunset on Monday in honor of Onondaga Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Michael Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen. The two men were shot and killed on Sunday while investigating a stolen vehicle complaint in Salina.
The man accused of killing them was also killed.
“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and it is a tragedy when they are taken from us too soon while in the line of duty,” Governor Hochul said. “Lieutenant Hoosock and Officer Jensen were two of our best and my thoughts are with their loved ones as we grieve with them.”
Jensens’ funeral will take place Saturday at 11:00a at St John the Baptist Church in Rome while Hoosock’s funeral will take place Monday at 11:00a at the State Fair Grounds Exposition Center in Syracuse.
Lt Hoosock leaves behind his wife, Caitlin, and three children, ages three, five, and seven. Officer Jensen leaves behind his parents and sister.
A fundraiser has been organized for the men’s families.
