Two men have been indicted for separate assaults on Auburn corrections officers.
According to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Taj Williams and Yakez Cornett have been charged with felony assaults after allegedly physically injuring officers while performing their duties at the Auburn prison. Williams is accused of injuring a guard in March 2024 while Cornett is accused of assault in August 2023.
Since the alleged incidents, both men have been transferred to Attica.
If convicted, each man is liable for up to seven years imprisonment followed by five years post-release supervision. These sentences would run consecutively with their current sentences.
Williams originally refused transport for arraignment but was eventually arraigned on August 27. His next court date is scheduled for November. Cornett was arraigned in July with his next court date set for late September.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
