A Steuben County Grand Jury has indicted a Pulteney woman on a second-degree murder charge following the death of a man she allegedly stabbed earlier this month.
District Attorney Brooks Baker announced Thursday that 25-year-old Annika Szathmary is accused of fatally stabbing 53-year-old William Pyrell inside his home on May 3. According to the DA, Szathmary admitted to stabbing Pyrell in the back and heart with the intent to kill him. Police found her at the scene with the suspected murder weapon.
Pyrell was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A motive or the nature of the relationship between Szathmary and Pyrell has not been disclosed.
Szathmary is being held at the Steuben County Jail without bail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
