Auburn Police have arrested a city man following an early-morning incident that left a car and multiple properties damaged earlier this month.
Shortly after 3 a.m. on November 3, officers responded to the area of South Lewis Street for a report of unknown trouble. When they arrived, police found a vehicle parked on Lawton Avenue with a smashed windshield. While speaking with people in the area, officers were directed back to South Lewis Street, where they discovered several damaged windows and doors.
Police entered a nearby apartment through an open door and found blood and additional damage inside, but no one was located in the residence.
Following an investigation, officers identified the tenant, Jeremy Smith, as the suspect. The damage to the property is estimated at more than $15,000.
Smith was arrested on Thursday and was being held at the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
