An Auburn man is facing multiple felony charges after a two-month-old child was seriously injured during a domestic incident that police say escalated into an act of violence.

Auburn Police were called to Auburn Community Hospital on Tuesday after medical staff reported an infant with injuries consistent with possible child abuse.

Investigators determined that 33-year-old Jason Brown had been involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, who is also the mother of their two-month-old child. Police allege that during the argument, Brown threw a video game console hard drive at the woman while she was holding the infant, striking the child in the head.

The baby was initially taken to Auburn Community Hospital and later transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse due to the severity of her injuries. Authorities say the child suffered a skull fracture and a brain bleed and remains hospitalized.

As part of the investigation, police say they discovered Brown had multiple firearms that he was not legally allowed to have. A search warrant was executed at Brown’s residence on Arch Street, where officers recovered a Taurus semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine and two AR-style rifles.

Brown is charged with felony assault, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a firearm, along with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon.

He is being held pending further court proceedings

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
