A Town of Lyons man has been charged following a welfare fraud investigation.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Jesus Mendez, 41, on charges of misuse of food stamps and petit larceny.

The charges stem from a joint investigation conducted by the Wayne County Department of Social Services and the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities allege Mendez allowed another person to use his Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT card to purchase food items without authorization.

Mendez was taken to the Wayne County Jail for processing and later released on an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court on April 21.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
