A Newark woman is facing a child endangerment charge after deputies say her 5-year-old autistic son was found walking into a roadway without supervision.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 39-year-old Michelle Travers following an investigation.

Authorities say deputies encountered the child as he was walking into the roadway and attempted to locate his parents. During the investigation, deputies allegedly found the back door of the home open and Travers asleep at the kitchen table. Investigators said she was the only adult in the home and was responsible for two of her three children at the time.

Travers was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and was released on an appearance ticket.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
