A GPS tracker located inside of a car stolen in Cayuga County helped police recover it and take one person into custody.
The car was stolen just after midnight Friday in the village of Weedsport. The owner of the car was able to give 911 real-time locations using the tracker and police were able to find it and conduct a traffic stop. The sole occupant, Harold Calkins of Brutus, was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
Following arraignment, Calkins was sent to Cayuga County Jail without bail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
