One man will spend the next 2-4 years in prison after being found guilty of defrauding Cayuga County residents.
According to District Attorney Brittany Grome-Antonacci, Michael Young of Preble in Cortland County defrauded two couples by taking nearly $19,000 for home improvement projects that he would never do.
After doing a different job in the Town of Locke. Young was advanced $12,000 dollars for additional work he didn’t complete.
He also took $7,000 dollars from a Town of Summerhill couple without doing any work.
In addition to prison, Young was ordered to pay full restitution to his victims.
District Attorney Grome Antonacci commented: “Most home improvement contractors are hard-working and honest. But as this case shows, unscrupulous individuals will take advantage of homeowners who are in need of repairs or improvements. If you believe that you have been defrauded in this manner, keep documentation and contact the appropriate law enforcement agency.”
