Complaints made by concerned Auburn residents regarding suspected illegal activity and disruptive behavior by a resident on parole resulted in the recovery of illegal drugs, weapons, and cash.
During a compliance check conducted by the Syracuse-area New York State Parole Office on Monday night at Brent Tanner, Senior’s home, officers allegedly found several quantities of suspected illegal drugs, including cocaine, crack, and fentanyl, along with drug paraphernalia used in the distribution and packaging of illegal drugs, a quantity of U.S. cash and various weapons. Parole Officers contacted and requested assistance from members of the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force with the processing of the suspected illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
According to the Task Force, its members were previously familiar with Tanner’s illegal activity and suspected narcotics trafficking as several concerned residents had reported numerous complaints.
As a result of the investigation, Tanner was charged with three felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Cayuga County Jail for CAP. The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office requested Tanner remain in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office due to his three previous felony convictions and being on parole.
The Finger Lakes Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the New York State Police, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and the Auburn Police Department. The Task Force was also assisted by the Auburn Police Department’s Gun-Involved Violence Elimination Team.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
