Paul Szmal: Welcome to the Chamber of Business Spotlight brought to you by the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce and we have a business that's relatively new that we're going to talk about today. I say relatively because they've been around for three years now. It's a company called Remedy Auto Detail. Gary Burrell is the owner and he's sitting alongside this morning. Gary, how are you this morning?
Gary Burrell: Good, Paul. How are you?
Paul Szmal: Doing well, Gary. Thanks.
The first thing I want to ask you about is how you do things a little bit differently than other auto detailers.
Gary Burrell: We do luxury ceramic coating and eco-friendly detailing. So this is a different way of going about it versus buying some of the over-the-counter stuff.
Paul Szmal: That's correct. A lot of people don't understand how harsh these chemicals can really be, especially if you're getting them from off the shelf from any retail store. So the stuff you're using is different. It's not something that you're going to find at your local Walmart or anything like that.
Gary Burrell: They're all made in the United States, but they are chemicals that are specifically designed not to have forever chemicals or any other very hazardous stuff. We still wear gloves, but a lot of our stuff, you don't really need to.
Paul Szmal: And you were telling me before we turned the bikes on here that these products don't even use a lot of water.
Gary Burrell: Correct. There's that big show. A lot of people love soap. It has its place. It's not dead. It has its place, but we use a process called rinseless wash, which is rinsing less. One gallon of water, I can clean an entire vehicle.
Paul Szmal: With a gallon?
Gary Burrell: One gallon. I'll still have more water left over.
Paul Szmal: That's amazing, Gary.
And can you tell me a little bit about this ceramic coating process and what it does?
Gary Burrell: It's not a scratch proof or a bulletproof type of coating. What it does is it goes into your paint. Is it a protective layer? So that way it is now safe for you to go through a car wash, a touchless car wash, not something with the abrasive wheels or anything that could still cause damage. You're going to have a very glossy exterior paint. It's going to be protected from those bugs. They're not going to cause damage to the paint below. That is our main goal is to protect that paint.
Paul Szmal: So how did you get into this line of work?
Gary Burrell: So I got into automotive detailing since I was a kid. I've always had cars that I've washed clean. I'd go to car shows and car meets to see these people with these really shiny cars and never understood how they got it so shiny. So I always, always tried to figure out how to get my car shinier than theirs. Throughout the years, I've stayed with the automotive industry. I've always had a passion with the automotive industry and automotive detailing is just something that it relaxes you. It's more therapeutic.
Paul Szmal: I get that because at the end, you can actually see the results of your work.
Gary Burrell: Exactly. You can see it. You can feel it. You can smell it. It's just, it's even the inside. It feels so good to just be in a clean car.
Paul Szmal: Yeah. The famous new car smell.
Now there's one thing I want to point out to everyone. You're doing this as a one man shop.
Gary Burrell: For right now. We have a clear vision that we want to grow this into something more than just a one man show. This is going to be something where we're going to be able to provide careers, not just a job. And that's something that is dear to my heart is to have my employees be able to provide for the family and provide for the community and also be a part of any organization that they want to be.
Paul Szmal: And what do you think the biggest factor is in people not being able to keep their cars cleaned and freshly detailed?
Gary Burrell: It's not difficult to clean a car. It's not difficult to keep the outside or the inside clean. The problem that I see most is that people don't have time and we are there to provide that time for them. We have that remedy to get you on your feet with a nice clean car all over again in a safe environment. So you're not sitting in a bunch of bacteria and potentially getting yourself or your passengers sick.
Paul Szmal: So this is the first year for you to be in the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce. What prompted you to make the decision, okay, yeah, I'm going to join in with the chamber?
Gary Burrell: I knew that I needed something more than just doing this by myself. Being part of a community of different businesses that are like-minded and are really good at communicating and want to see you grow. That's what I was looking for. And you can find that with this chamber.
Paul Szmal: How's the experience been for you so far?
Gary Burrell: Oh, absolutely wonderful. It's been great. It's very consistent with their events, but not over the top, which gives you ample time to talk to a bunch of different people.
Paul Szmal: So you would definitely recommend it to another business?
Gary Burrell: Oh, absolutely. Any business that isn't part of the chamber is missing out on some really beneficial resource.
