Paul Szmal: It's our Chamber Thursday, so we open things up here by talking with Amy Fuller from the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce. Amy, good morning.
Guest: Good morning, Paul.
Paul Szmal: We have a lot to talk about here, starting off with an event that is happening today at the Carriage House. It's the Leadership Cayuga graduation.
Guest: Yes, this is the wrap-up of our nine-month program that starts in September and goes to May. They meet once a month on a Thursday. And today is the graduation of the most current class, and tomorrow we start recruiting for the next one. But the graduation is today, as you said, Carriage House Museum, and it's 1130 to 1. If you haven't registered, you know, we'll sneak in if you're interested in attending. But it's a great way, you know, if you're new to the area or new to a position, it's a great way to to find out about the entire county. So Jessica Wrench, our Education Coordinator, does a great job with this program. So if you're interested in learning more about it, contact the Chamber or Jessica directly and see if you could fit in with the next class.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, there's no rest there, is there? You go from graduating to, all righty, next day. Okay, next cycle begins. Here we go.
Guest: Exactly. There's a dinner and show raffle that is going on during the month of June. Tell us about it.
Paul Szmal: Yes, we did this last year, and thank you to our friends at The Rev. We are kicking it off, as you said, on Monday. And it's two tickets to the opening week of Tarzan, which is the second show of the season, and $100 cash to go to dinner somewhere. So it's our summer raffle, and it goes from June 1st to June 26th. It's entirely online. So in our emails and on the website, you'll have the QR code to participate. It's $10 a chance or three for 25. So it's quite a good deal to go have a nice night at The Rev and treat yourself to a nice dinner somewhere.
Guest: It's a band that when somebody mentions Tarzan, the first person I think of is not Johnny Weissmuller, but Carol Burnett.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, it's a very good point. I remember the Tarzan yell quite well.
Guest: Yeah, I'm not going to try to do it, because I'm not even close. But I thought you were going somewhere with a loincloth or something.
Paul Szmal: No, no, no. We'll keep things PG here. And I want to thank our friends at Excellus for sponsoring the dinner portion of that, too. So what a great way to go have a night out. So that'll open on Monday. So hope you participate.
Guest: Absolutely. And you can do the Tarzan yell along with the people on the stage. Coming up on June the 12th is the Chamber Golf Tournament at Dutch Hollow. There's still a few open slants available?
Paul Szmal: There is. And they do such a great job. It's our annual golf tournament. It's 18 holes. It's 14 best ball. And yep, there's still time to register. There's a couple more sponsor opportunities. We have a $10,000 hole-in-one on the front and on the back, one sponsored by Savannah Bank, the other by Beardsley Architect and Engineers. Our lunch sponsor is Empower Federal Credit Union. Our cocktail sponsor is Gallagher-Palming. And we have a lot of tea and green sponsors. And that's going to close out by the end of the week. It's $100 and you get your business name on a hole. So if you're interested in that, contact us today or tomorrow because we have to get those printed. So we need to wrap those up. But it's a fun day at golf out at Dutch Hollow. So if you're interested and want to sign up a team, give us a call. We still have a few spots available.
Guest: Yeah. And you don't exactly have to be a great golfer. It's teams of four, right?
Paul Szmal: It's teams of four and it's a best ball.
Guest: Yes. You can go and enjoy yourself, maybe get a ringer so you don't have to hit so many balls. I don't know. That's the easiest way to do it is you get yourself a ringer that you know is going to be able to drive and hit the middle of the fairway. And then you can just go out there and whack at it and it doesn't matter. You just go to that ball and everybody doesn't know who hit it. And you're just like, wow, look at that drive. I said, yeah, kind of shake your head. You know, it's all right.
Paul Szmal: There you go. We're talking with Amy Fuller from the Keuka County Chamber of Commerce here on FLX Morning. Amy, you wanted to mention a workshop that was coming up.
Guest: Yes. On June 23rd, we have a workshop with Gwen Weber-McLeod. It's called Trust, a strategic business resource for women leaders. It's going to be actually at the Carriage House Theater from 9 to 11. And members are $10. Non-members are $20. And we had to move it to the Carriage House because when we had her here a couple months ago, we maxed out our conference room. So we want to make sure that there's room enough for everybody who wants to attend. And Gwen is such a dynamic speaker and answers a lot of questions that people have. So a great opportunity to hit a workshop on June 23rd. And registration for that is on the Chamber website?
Paul Szmal: Yes, it is. It's on the website or if you're, you know, it's on the emails that we send. But if you have trouble looking for it, you're always welcome to call the office and we'll get you all set up.
Guest: Yeah, we'll get you that number at the end of the conversation here. The next Business After Five is at one of the coolest places in Keuka County.
Paul Szmal: Yes, it's on June 24th. And it's at the Awasco Yacht Club. It's from 5 to 6.30. And their tagline is come and enjoy your place on the lake. And it is a beautiful spot on the east side of Awasco Lake. They've kind of taken over the June Business After Five for the past few years, along with the Owla Group that helps keep our lake clean. And we always get 70 to 80 people at that event. It's just a beautiful night on the lake and a great opportunity. We get a lot of nice, you know, a lot of new people. They have music and great food. And like I said, you just sit there and look out at that gorgeous lake. And there's no better spot.
Guest: There's no better spot. And do you have to be a chamber member for those?
Paul Szmal: Chamber members, a lot of them have, you know, you don't have to be a chamber member to attend because chamber members have most of that rolled into their membership level. But if you're a non-member and want to check out a chamber event and or this beautiful spot on the lake, non-members are $7. You pay at the door. But, you know, and they're also having an open house on June 4th, too, if people are interested in becoming a member of the Yacht Club. But we have information on that as well here at the chamber office. And it's a great evening.
Guest: Yeah. And speaking of membership, starting on July 1st, there is a special membership deal for the balance of the year.
Paul Szmal: Yes, we do this every year come July 1st. If you're not a member of the Cuyahoga County Chamber and you've just been saying, I want to check it out. I'm hoping it'll help my business or organization. Great opportunities coming up for you because starting July 1st, memberships are half price for the rest of 2026. You know, we're halfway through the year. So we've had some events. So we feel it only fair to offer a half price membership and check out the events we have for the rest of the year and see if that membership makes sense for your business or organization. I also want to mention you'll be hearing it during the month of June on our FLX local media stations. The Tompkins Community Bank Community Minute will be focused on the Cuyahoga County Chamber of Commerce.
Guest: Yes, I had a nice conversation with Barb Soroka there at Tompkins. And, you know, they're a diamond member of our organization and they donate to our auction. They're very supportive of all of our events. So we were happy that they chose us to be that the chamber moment there for the month of June. So I'm happy to do that. And as we head into July and August, any other big events on the horizon for the chamber?
Paul Szmal: Actually, we are having a new summer event. We've changed this up over the past couple of years. This year on August 5th, we're going to be at Inns of Aurora. It's called Cocktails and Conversation on Cuyahoga. And we're going to have a nice cocktail style party in the back side of the Inns of Aurora where they have some permanent tents and another great lake event. And that's going to go from five to eight o'clock. And we're going to have a great Aurora themed basket. I can give you a little sneak preview, tell you that one of the prizes in the raffle basket will be an overnight at the new farmhouse. And there's going to be some other amenities that all support the Aurora, you know, Union Springs area. So we'll be opening registration for that sometime in early July, but our friends at Chemung Canal Trust Company are a longtime sponsor of that summer event. So watch for registration to open and we should have a nice night on the lake in on Cuyahoga Lake too.
Guest: We're happening on a lot of lakes this year. I like this.
Paul Szmal: Yeah, well, that's the advantage of being here in this region, Amy, is I mean, throw a rock in any direction and you're going to hit water.
Guest: I know. And such beautiful waterways and such great opportunities. So we are lucky to be nestled right in the middle, as you said, right in the middle of all these beautiful lakes. And we want to extend our congratulations to the graduates of the Cuyahoga Leadership Program. That's happening again today at 1130 at the Carriage House. And for more information, if people want to find out about registering for events or maybe once we turn the calendar over to July, they want to take advantage of that membership deal. What's the website for the chamber?
Paul Szmal: CuyahogaCountyChamber.com. Information's on there. Or you can call us directly at the office 315-252-7291. And we'd be happy to hook you up with a membership, sign you up for any of the upcoming events, whatever you need to do.
Guest: All right. We're going to give Amy a month to catch her breath and then we'll check in with her in the month of June. Thank you, Amy, as always. Appreciate it.
Paul Szmal: You have a wonderful day, Paul. Thank you.
